Wind

While not generally applicable due to wind variability, small wind electrical systems, commonly known as windmills, are capable of producing electricity for heating, lighting and powering appliances.

Once a common sight on farms, windmills practically disappeared with the availability of cheap centrally generated electricity. However, they are once again becoming popular in agricultural settings for water pumping, and wherever steady winds and high energy costs exist.
