Weather-Stripping Against Infiltration
Weather-stripping is designed to reduce air leakage around parts of the house that must move
relative to one another, like doors and windows. Weather-stripping
is easy to install and may be one of the most cost-effective home
improvements. Besides improving the efficiency of your heating
and cooling systems, weather-stripping keeps out dirt, dust, noise
and moisture, and can make the home less drafty. Locating places
that need weather-stripping is simple; just feel for drafts around
them on a windy day, or turn on a whole-house fan with the doors
and windows closed. It will pull air in through cracks, allowing
you to identify them. Check all doors and windows, even ones that
lead to enclosed but unheated areas like the garage, porch, basement
or attic.
